Many celebrities also collect my work... ARTIST'S DESCRIPTION OF PAINTING. This scenario shows Jesus in blue jeans hurrying away. From a circus tent with a woman in his arms. The woman is a deformed creature who I. I never paid enter the traveling circus tent.
Part of my inspiration for this piece. So I don't know what "Angel" looked like.. But I imagined her as being deformed from birth. With no arms and a protruding chest cavity. I pictured her legs being incapable of supporting her.
Lifeless twisted pieces of flesh. This painting is my grand analogy to life. I see this life as a circus freak show in many ways. P hysical deformities , f ighting and wars.
Are all unnatural results of a. Came to the first man and woman. And offered a superior type of knowledge. Than they possessed at present. The knowledge of good and evil.Or as some translators say the enjoyment of evil. And no- I don't think that "thing". They were offered was a literal fruit.. And no, I don't think the original sin was sex. I think it's a lot less cryptic. That some form of evil is evident in around us every day.
Because the predator enjoy s the thrill. Of seeing his or her victim suffer. Because the "masters of war". Of sacrificing thousands of innocents. For a few more billion tons of oil.ANYWAY------ back to this piece- The painting is created in a folk art manner. I showed with the late great Reverend Howard Finster shortly before he died. Some of my folkier styled work is influenced by him- not only stylistically but by virtue of the fact that he was (to me) the ultimate preacher/painter. Howard often took common recognizable objects (like his giant coke bottle piece)..
And plastered the image with Bible sayings. There is a naive feeling and emphasis on color and expression that comes through in my folk art type paintings. They are generally quite detailed and time consuming (unlike some folk art). In this piece I spent a long time on the expressions of the individual characters (the black ticket taker, the deformed girl, the two odd looking people exiting the tent and Jesus).I also spent quite a while on the huge circus banners. T he design and idea are directly from my imagination as the entire composition is... But based on my experiences from at a local fair. Last pic is one of me and Howard at our joint show in about 1997 in the Myrtle beach area.
Howard was looking at and commenting on one of my paintings... I was honored to later hear from his manager/ daughter that he appreciated the messages in my work more than any of the other pieces in the gallery'cache. There is the outward simplistic narrative- and the deeper background "story". This is where my work diverges from the great majority of work about the rock and roll icons (& about Jesus, whom I also paint in an outside-the-box way).
I've found that many artists are capable of capturing the likeness of a person- but that's where their skill ends. They lack the life experience and or the technical capacity to go further into narrative. But there is nothing else going on in the piece. This is a condensed version of what I believe separates'real passionate works of art' from the mundane. SPECIFIC DETAILS about the SIZE etc.
The two pieces may be hung without a frame - (side by side). So they appear as one unit- as I designed them. As with all my pieces. Th is piece is signed and dated (20 14) by me (KATA).
Each canvas measures 10 " high and 8 " across. Making the overall dimensions 10" high and 16" across. But ready to hang on the wall. (side by side or with a space in between the canvases).
Depending on your personal preference. I CURRENTLY CREATE THREE MAIN CATEGORIES OF WORK. This piece is category 3.Replica Original of my Work. These are the most time consuming and generally the largest in scale of my works. They are owned by hundreds of Private Individuals and many Museums worldwide. One Primary Original work of art can take me weeks, months or even years to create. I generally create only five to twenty pieces of this type work per year. These are generally the second most time consuming and expensive of my works. They are entirely hand painted Versions of certain of my Primary Original Paintings. PRIMARY ORIGINAL pieces and wanted something similar but not necessarily as expensive. They are similar to but in no way identical to the Primary Originals after which they take their inspiration. They are also not merely a re-painting of my PRIMARY ORIGINALS. Because each one contains new artistic- discoveries. Which never occurred in the PRIMARY ORIGINALS.
They become an extension- a continuation of the PRIMARY ORIGINALS from which they are inspired. I typically spend a week, two weeks or even longer on each piece. They sometimes (but do not always) have unique frames which. I embellish with one-of-a-kind mattes and vintage objects de' art and unusual titles. They may be framed very simply - or be painted on gallery wrap canvas which requires no frame.
I create only between ten to fifty pieces in this category of work each year. All these pieces are ethically technically legally. (and in every way) Original Paintings. These are generally my least expensive category of work.
They also take me the least amount of time overall. Unlike the VERSIONS of WORK category, see 2. Above these pieces are as close to being identical to the PRIMARY ORIGINALS as I can possibly mange.
The only exception being the frames. They are entirely hand painted (generally smaller) replicas of certain Primary Originals. Ethically, technically and in every way these pieces are also Original Paintings.
These pieces require weeks for me to complete. They often have very unusual frames which.
They may be painted on wood, canvas or other materials. I usually create between twenty to one hundred pieces in this category of work each year.
