In this original painting, the artist captures a charming image of a young native woman cradling a small lamb in her arms while a mature sheep stands guard by her side. This beautiful painting was completed on a masonite panel and signed and dated by the artist on the lower right, Raymer'76. This painting is in overall very good vintage condition. Under a black light it shows no signs of paint loss, in-painting or repair. Due to its age it does show some slight discoloring to sky. You certainly can enjoy it just the way it is, or you could easily remedy it with a proper cleaning. Unframed the painting measures 18" in width x 24" in height and together with the original gold wooden frame it measures 27" x 33". The handsome frame has a depth of 2 and is in overall good vintage condition with some very minor chipping and surface abrasions consistent with its age. As for the artist, Ron Raymer was born on July 23, 1943, in Warsaw, Missouri. He grew up in the small Ozark town of Climax Springs and graduated from Climax Springs High School in 1961.

He was a multitalented artist, in addition to being a painter, he was an engraver, wood carver, sculptor, musician, song writer and maker of custom musical instruments. He also was considered a very spiritual person. As a young teen, Ron was stricken with rheumatic fever. He felt as though God took him through those days to begin to develop his art talent.

Those talents lead to a 37-year career at Hallmark Cards as an artist, painter and engraver. At Hallmark, Ron mentored and taught workshops for fellow artists. He helped to develop the creative staff of approximately 600 artists through expanding the skills of the individual artists.

Ron's work received some high acclaim. His art is part of the collection at the Smithsonian Museum, the Truman Presidential Library, the Ralph Foster Museum, the College of the Ozark, the American Banjo Museum, the American Jazz Museum, the New York City Fire Fighters' Museum and the Nuevo Santander Gallery in McAllen, Texas. Some of his special works included White House Christmas cards for several Presidents and several first-day issue stamps for the United States Postal Service, including covers of Winston Churchill, Harry S. Truman and musician Charlie Parker.

Speaking of jazz great Charlie Parker, Ron was also an accomplished musician himself and music had always been a part of his life. He enjoyed jam sessions first with his father, uncles and family and then later with his many bluegrass friends.

He also was a song writer for more than 50 years. Ron recored over 25 CD's, primarily original songs that he wrote. Ron exhibited his works in both one-man shows and group exhibitions. Ron Raymer passed away unexpectedly on May 8, 2018 at the age of 75.
