Oustanding 1919 Boston School conte crayon or charcoal drawing of a young girl. Philbrick studied at the Masschachusetts School of Art. Philbrick was the head of the Massachusetts College of Art's painting and graphics department and one of the founding members of the Boston Printmakers in the 1940s.He exhibited widely including exhibitions at the Guild of Boston Artists, the Corcoran Gallery, National Academy of Design, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, Library of Congress, and many others. Philbrick's work is in the collections of the Fogg Museum, Library of Congress, and Amherst College, among many others. During the 1910s, Philbrick produced a number of drawings of young children that he exhibited at the Copley Gallery, the Philadelphia Watercolor Club, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art. This work, likely part of that series, is signed lower right and dated 1919.
It is titled "Margaret Jackson" on the upper edge. The drawing measures 18" x 14" and is in good condition with apparent acid burn and several spots of foxing and minor surface soiling.
